Most people like to go down to their local bar or small restaurant on the weekends to have a couple drinks to relax. Imagine being able to get that relaxing buzzed feel that people describe from some type of drug. This drug is said to give an individual the feeling of a buzz that is acquired from an alcoholic beverage. Dr. David Nutt says there might be an alcohol free buzz feel coming soon from a drug. Dr. Nutt says since this substance is a drug and works directly on a receptor it is possible to reverse the effects with a "sober pill". It is said that the effects of this drug and the reversible drug do not cause a hangover or any hangover like symptoms. The plan to create this "drunk without alcohol" drug dates back to 2009 but Dr. Nutt has just recently thought of the different compounds that could mimic the effects of alcohol. He explains that the drug could be consumed by dropping it in a beverage that way people could enjoy a beverage and acquire the relaxing feeling from the drug. This new thought and process of creating this drug is very interesting and seems as if it will be very difficult to make sure it does its job perfectly. Most experts do not trust the report as of now.

  1. This topic is controversial yet interesting. It can be viewed as both negative and positive. The younger generation is just looking for a good time and this pill can provide it for them without the bitter taste or burn of some alcohol or the nausea and puking that might come afterwards assisted by a hangover. It might not be such a good idea because it gives people the idea that they do not have to be as responsible as they would be without the "sober pill". Great work with your post, Jason! Everything was clear and quick without any extra details.

  2. Is there not something called alcohol? Then, why is Dr. Nutt creating a drug to replace another drug called alcohol? Do we not already have enough problems with alcohol consumption, such as teenage pregnancies and the worst of all drinking while drunk and killing innocent people? I for one would like to see the person who can convince a drunk and buzzed individual to take the reversal pill and to leave “euphoria” for reality.

  3. As the previous commenter mentioned, there are both positive and negative aspects to this drug. It is positive because it reduces alcohol consumption among teens and others who want to see what it is like. It is negative because it still causes the dangerous effects of alcohol, the pill is artificial and will cause more issues with your body, and it can lead to many fatalities. Individuals with bad intentions may switch these pills with harmful date rape drugs, but that is with any pill.

  4. I agree with both Aram and Jaqueline. This new concept is extremely interesting. However, the new pill can be quiet risky. It may be the cause of further problems, which can be dangerous and deadly. Regarding the post, Jason has done a wonderful job summarizing it. Just the right amount of details is included. Nice job!

  5. Now one can argue that the "buzz" feeling of drinking is indeed the most enjoyable part of drinking, but is it not the concept of sharing drinks with your buddies the whole fun of it? What joy is there in swallowing a pill which literally replaces the outcome of alcoholic beverages without the consumption of alcohol? I am in no way encouraging the consumption of alcoholic beverages - or any drugs, of course - but if the pill rids the whole fun of drinking, it would serve no purpose.

  6. I believe this new drug created to produce the same effects of alcohol is an interesting and fascinating idea. However, it comes along with many positive and negative aspects to it. The positive part of the drug is that no bitter taste of alcohol will be required anymore to feel an actual buzz that an alcoholic beverage would provide. The negative part is one's body would have to undergo the effects of artificial substances that it is not used to, just as Aram mentioned. All in all, the topic of choice was very interesting and well written. Great job!

  7. Certainly, this so-called “sober pill” has caused a controversial upheaval within the minds of many. A new artificial pill has surfaced most likely resulting in the latest FAD in society. Along with other comments stated above, I completely agree with the mind boggling fact that replacing alcoholic beverages with, yet again, more artificial chemicals is absurd; as if the human body was not already contaminated with enough horrid chemicals and habits. Stunning work, Jason!

  8. This is quite a fascinating blog, which summarizes the good and bad aspects of a pill that can create the feeling of being drunk. It does seem a bit bizarre, that a pill can just give off the same effect as alcohol. It is suggested to not use this pill until it is certain of its outcome, just as Jason mentioned. Very interesting topic!

  9. This pill sounds pretty cool if a person would want to get a fast "buzz" feeling instead of drinking. One would believe that this is a smart and interesting idea but a personal opinion would be not to try it because of the fear of it causing different kinds of problems in the future. Then again too much of something is always unhealthy.

  10. Why create an easier way to add alcohol to one's body? It is as if many people do not already drink much more alcohol than a normal person would think of, so why make a drug that has the same effect, but in a smaller package. I can already imagine people swallowing these to no end, and getting drunk without having to drink liquor. I believe that this drug will be abused much more instead of actually being put to good use.

  11. It amazes me how people come up with these types of new inventions. Who knew that a drug could take the place of actually drinking alcohol to get drunk. Soon enough, people would not even have to eat food, and instead take a pill to give them the satisfying taste. It truly is interesting, how the doctor came up with the idea in the first place. Great blog post Jason!

  12. It is unbelievable what people attempt to create. Alcohol is widely known to cause deaths, and here are the scientists inventing new ways for people to obtain alcohol. An increase in car accidents and DUI's may occur, not having taken this into consideration before creating the pill. A job well done Jason.
